10 kilos by Easter? Week 12

I was supposed to have a session with Rama on Sunday morning but he cancelled as he’d broken his nose over the weekend (no, it wasn’t me). I got his message at 8am and went back to sleep. When I woke up I considered getting straight to work but then thought I’d go to the gym anyway as I hadn’t been for the last two days. I did 45 minutes on the treadmill and came home.

On Monday I had my usual yoga class at home. For some reason it felt tougher than usual but it was more or less the same as always. My cousin said she felt the same – so I’m not sure why it was so much harder. 

I had a session with Rama on Tuesday which left me exhausted. The majority of the session consisted of mini circuits, five exercises in a row done for 45 seconds each followed by a rest. The circuits consisted of:

  • Bench press – using 3-kg weights
  • Squats using the Swiss ball
  • Star jumps
  • Crunches
  • Cross-trainer at a high resistance
  • Rest
  • Seated row
  • Walking lunges
  • Stepping on and off a stationary treadmill
  • Ab cycles
  • Cross-trainer at a high resistance
  • Rest
  • Clean and press
  • Wall squat
  • Bear crawl
  • Abs
  • Cross-trainer at a high resistance
  • Rest
  • Bench press using the weights machine
  • Sumo squats
  • Ski jumps
  • Abs
  • Cross-trainer at a high resistance
  • Rest
  • Tricep dips
  • Stepping on and off a stationary treadmill with 3-kg weights
  • Push-ups
  • Crunches
  • Cross-trainer at a high resistance

I don’t know how I got through it all. After that there was more lower body and abs work and some stretching. And then it was over! 

When I got home, Dad asked how it went. I listed some of the things I did and he said, ‘You know, you look like a completely different person.’ Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but the shape of my body has definitely changed. 

Having the session with Rama on a Tuesday completely threw me off for the rest of the week. I’m so used to seeing him on Sundays and Wednesdays I woke up on Wednesday thinking it was Thursday, woke up on Thursday thinking it was Friday, and so on. I’ve realised that unless I’m having a session with him or yoga, I generally have no idea what day it is when I wake up in the mornings.

On Wednesday I did a 40-minute walk on the treadmill, and took Thursday and Friday off. 

On Saturday morning I spent 45 minutes on the treadmill and decided I’d had enough. Once again, as I was on minute 38 I contemplated stopping at 40 minutes when the song changed. And guess what it was? Yes, that’s right: Don’t Give Up. So I went up to 45 minutes and went back home. 

I’d eaten out a lot this week and because it was my birthday there was cake at lunch on Thursday, cake at lunch on Friday, and the green tea and banana cake at Zuma on Friday night. So I wasn’t expecting to lose any weight and was pleasantly surprised to find I’d lost 0.5 kg. So my total weight loss now is 12.2 kg (just under 27 lbs). I can’t seem to move beyond the 12 kg mark!
