Your destiny lies in your own hands

I had a terrible week in terms of exercise and diet!

I had a session on Sunday morning with Trevor. After my 5-minute warm-up on the bike he told me I was going to do the following circuit:

  • Treadmill x 400 m (5 km/h for the first minute, 7 km/h after that)
  • Lateral pulldowns x 10
  • Push-ups x 20
  • Combined squat/press (3-kg weights) x 30
  • Mountain climbers x 40 (20 on each side)
  • Rest x 3 min

I did that three times in total. I think the worst of those was the combined squat/press – my shoulders were already sore after the push-ups and combined with the squats, I just wanted to die.

After the third round, I did some stretches. Just when I thought we were done, he said his watch wasn’t working properly and we still had a few minutes left. So I did the following abs circuit:

  • Crunches x 15
  • Reverse crunches x 15
  • Abdominal toe touches x 15
  • Russian twists x 15 (on each side)

Ouch!

I didn’t make it to yoga on Monday morning – I just couldn’t wake up.

On Tuesday I was all ready for yoga, my cousin had come over and we were waiting for our teacher to show up. She eventually called to say that she was at the temple and would be about 10-15 minutes late. OK, fine – at least she let us know. Thirty minutes later there was still no sign of her so I called her. No answer. She called back a few minutes later to say she was still at the temple – and she could be at my place in 20 minutes. Well, no – that didn’t really work. My cousin had to head off and I had work scheduled for the day so we thought it best to just leave it for the day.

On Wednesday I went to the gym and began my warm-up on the bike. At about 8.40 I texted Trevor to see if he was on his way. No response. I decided to just get on the treadmill while I was waiting for him. At 9am he sent me a text saying he was really sorry and that he’d slept through his alarm. I just carried on with my brisk walk and then went home.

I couldn’t wake up on Thursday for yoga either. I’d been working late the night before and just couldn’t face it. And the entire weekend was spent eating and drinking as I was attending a wedding.

Low point of the week? See above!

High point of the week? I’ve given up bread for Lent.

Weight loss? Nothing new (or good) to report!
